Lutvann-undersøkelsen En case-studie om uteskolens didaktikk. Delrapport 2
Abstract
psykomotoriske elementer i opplæringen integreres.
English: The main purpose of the Lutvann-survey is to throw some light on the
pedagogical theory and practice which has been developed at Lutvann School in the
field of outdoor education. Lutvann School, a primary school in Oslo, introduced
outdoor education as a working method in 1995 as an important element in the
teaching. One day a week throughout the school year the pupils and teachers use the
surroundings of the school as a teaching resource to complement and enrich the
teaching going on indoors – in the classroom.
In this report we direct our attention to what pupils and teachers actually do in
the local environment and local society, as the teachers look upon it. We describe how
Lutvann School organises outdoor education, which parts of the local environment and
local society they use, which subjects the pupils are working on and which methods
the teachers use in outdoor education. The report suggests answers to the all-important
didactical questions of where, what and why.
The study shows that outdoor education is possible to realise as a regular workingmethod
throughout the seven years of primary school. The material draws a detailed
and complete picture of outdoor education. The study indicates that the school subjects
have claimed considerable space in outdoor education. The pupils get the chance to
work with the subjects in several, often practical ways, where cognitive, affective and
psychomotory elements are integrated.
The study indicates that outdoor education represents a pedagogical thinking and
practice that seems to have large potential in the school, today and in the future. We
sense the outlines of a school which meets the classical theory-practice-problem of
education in a way that strengthens the theoretical perspective of the education. At the
same time, however, the pupils can approach the subjects in various ways and use all
parts of themselves. The study supports the opinion of outdoor education as a relevant
and valuable pedagogical practice which stimulates the development of the pupils as
whole human beings. Outdoor education gives an important contribution to a more
life-centred school.
