English: The purpose of this bachelor´s thesis was investigate hoe the national curriculum for primary school open for teachers to educate active, democratic citizens. The thesis presents a study of policy documents and educational literature, discussing different aspects of democracy and democratic education in primary and lower secondary school. These investigations contributed in depth interviews with three teachers. The Education Act and the National Curriculum both open for diverse learning teaching about democracy and in citizenship in all taught subjects. Based on my studies, it is possible to suggest that to educate pupils to become active and democratic citizens, this require educational activities, about, for and through democracy. Educational literature implies that education about and for democracy is more frequent than education through democracy. My informants calm that they teach democracy on all levels. If this is correct, their teaching practice already accommodates the general objectives for teaching, learning and practicing democracy already accommodate the general objectives for teaching, learning and practicing democracy and citizenship in a draft version of a general part of the curriculum.nb_NO
