English: The title of this thesis is «The intrinsic value of childhood and the quality perspective». The approach to the problem researched is «A study in the light of Hannah Arendt – how does the intrinsic value of childhood safeguarded in the pursuit of quality?» Throughout this research, three of Arendts philosophical concepts have been used. These are individuality, action and power, and runs through the thesis as a red thread. The thesis is written with a purpose of shedding light on the intrisic value of childhood, and if it can be included in the pursuit of quality in the kindergarten. The theoretical foundation is based with focus on the selected concepts of Arendt. The purpose has also been to shed light on topical thematics, as well as what quality can mean to and in the kindergarten as an institution. It is questioned if the kindergarten are able to keep focus on the intrinsic value of childhood in a society that becomes more and more interested in learning. With the political philosopher Arendt as a source of inspiration, a number of questions are raised through the thesis. The main goal has not been to provide concrete answers, but to reflect around different aspects within the two big terms of the intrinsic value of childhood and quality. The research material has been obtained by group interviews, and has a constructivistic approach and an analysis inspired by phenomenology. The data material gathered has been structured after individual, action and power and shows the participants exchange through the approach to the problem. This thesis does not draw clear conclusions, but shows some contexts and opposites within the approach to the problem.nb_NO
