English: This master thesis has an ethical approach, where I discuss human relations in the digital age. Community and closeness are the core conditions being discussed, based on philosophical and sociological perspectives, as well as various current affairs. The topic questions for this master thesis are: How can community and closeness be experienced in the digital space, and how can digital communication affect our interpersonal relations? Philosophical perspectives from Emmanuel Lévinas, Peter Kemp and K.E. Løgstrup have been among the most important inspirations and these perspectives are being used as a basis for discussion. In addition, sociologist Sherry Turkle is among my theoretical guides in how digital technology affects human relations. Among the current affairs featured in the discussion, the case of Mats Steen is most important, as it is used in the discussion of both topic questions. The method used in this master thesis is inspired by the philosophical essay structure, since creative academic writing as a research method appropriately facilitates argumentation, as well as wonder and reflection associated with the topic questions. I argue in this thesis that community and closeness can be experienced in the digital space. These emotional states are what makes us human, and can be seen as basic conditions for human existence. Therefore, they can be said to precede the distinction between the physical and the digital space. However, I argue that there are several aspects of our digital communication that can create barriers in our interpersonal relations. Still, we must acknowledge how valuable digital communication can be for many.en_US
