Fremstillinger av natur, aktørskap og økoborgerskap i en bildebok. En økokritisk tilnærming til Du og jeg (2018) av Synne Lea og Stian Hole.

Abstract

Sammendrag Denne masteroppgaven utforsker fremstillinger av natur, aktørskap og økoborgerskap i bildeboka Du og jeg av Synne Lea og Stian Hole i et økokritisk perspektiv. Oppgaven undersøker samspillet mellom naturen og mennesket, og hvordan naturfremstillingene i boka kan bidra til en dypere forståelse av naturen.

Ved å anvende økokritisk teori, danningsteori og bildebokteori, analyserer oppgaven hvordan bokas ikonotekst kan bidra til danning både hos karakterene og hos den teksteksterne leseren. Analysen viser at naturens rolle tar form i vekslingen mellom pastorale, post-pastorale og villmarkspregede uttrykk. Funnene indikerer at naturfremstillinger i litteraturen kan bidra til identifisering med og respekt for naturen. Samspillet mellom naturen og hovedkarakteren trekker narrativet i både antroposentrisk og økosentrisk retning, noe som dessuten er et omdreiningspunkt for oppgaven.

Gjennom fremstillingen av en danningsreise fra avhengighet til aktørskap, gjør mulighetene for danning til aktørskap og økoborgerskap seg gjeldende. I jentas mestring av og samspill med naturen fremstiller de to som jevnbyrdige. Dette kommer frem gjennom analysene av både paratekstene, karakter- og naturfremstillingene, og dessuten i de didaktiske perspektivene på danning og økoborgerskap.

Som bidrag på det økokritiske feltet, viser oppgaven hvordan økokritiske perspektiver kan være et viktig bidrag i lesing av og arbeid med bildebøker med tanke på danning og økt bevissthet rundt bærekraft.

Abstract This master's thesis explores representations of nature, agency and eco-citizenship in the picture book You and I by Synne Lea and Stian Hole in an ecocritical perspective. The thesis examines the interaction between nature and human characters, and how the depictions of nature in the book can contribute to a deeper understanding of nature. By applying ecocritical theory, formation theory and picture book theory, the thesis analyzes how the book's iconotext can contribute to formation both for the characters and for the reader. The analysis shows that the role of nature takes shape in the alternation between expressions of pastoral, post-pastoral, and wilderness. These findings indicate that representations of nature in literature can contribute to identification with, and respect for, nature. The interaction between nature and the main character draws towards both anthropocentrism and ecocentrism, which is also a pivot point for this thesis. Through the presentation of a formative journey from dependence to independency, the possibilities of formation towards agency and eco-citizenship become apparent. In the girl's mastery of, and interaction with, nature, the two are presented as equals. This emerges through the analyzes of the paratexts, the characterization of the characters and nature, and also in the didactic perspectives on education and eco-citizenship. As a contribution in the ecocritical field, the thesis shows how ecocritical perspectives can be an important contribution in reading and working with picture books with a view to formation and increased awareness of sustainability.
