Abstract
The introduction of pharmacy vending machines would be an innovative concept within the Norwegian healthcare system. This product concept would operate around the clock for the whole year and offer more convenient means of obtaining over-the-counter (OTC) and prescription medications. Their implementation can enhance medication compliance and adherence to the proper medication at the right time. Furthermore, they can reduce pressure on the healthcare system regarding staffing and emergency visits for minor health complications. Considering Norway's geography and weather, pharmacy vending machines would benefit people in small towns by allowing them access to life-saving medication anytime.
This master's thesis draws on over a decade of experience in pharmacy and explores the intersection of innovation in technology and healthcare services. While there are several well-established companies in pharmacy vending machines worldwide, the MedAvail concept stands out due to its e-prescription collection and operational principles. Norway's robust e-prescription system and information and communication technology department create an opportunity to integrate the vending machine concept into the healthcare system.
This thesis highlights different stages, from product concept to product launching. It also points to the potential of pharmacy vending machines in Norway and the possibility of expanding to other Scandinavian countries.
