«Ein stad skal dei så sin rug» Bidrag til et forskningsprogram om skogsfinsk kultur og den regionale innlandskulturen i Skandinavia

Abstract

Dette utkastet til et forskningsprogram om skogsfinsk kultur er blitt til på oppdrag fra Hedmark fylkeskommune. Forskningsoppgavene er sett i lys av Stortingsmelding nr. 15 (2000-2001) og presentert i et minoritetsperspektiv. Rapporten innledes med en kort introduksjon til skogsfinsk historie og kultur basert på den eldre forskningen. Det er introdusert et skille mellom det som kan kalles skogsfinsk kultur i mer generelle forstand, og en mer stedegen finnskogskultur. Deretter inneholder rapporten en del forslag til nye prosjekter, systematisert på basis av et Skjema for kulturanalyse, som er egnet til å identifisere ulike behov innen kulturforskning. I tillegg er det lagt vekt på komparativ forskning som kan gjøre forskning på skogsfinsk kultur mer allment interessant. Det komparative perspektivet kan realiseres både ved å sammenlikne skogfinnenes akkultureringsforløp over tid både med andre innvandrergrupper av finsk opphav i Norge og med urbefolkningsgruppa sørsamer og den nasjonale minoriteten romani. Dette kan kaste lys over de mer grunnleggende mentalitetene i den norsk-etniske befolkningen, de generelle prosessene som har vært i virksomhet og særegne kjennetegn ved ulike minoritetsgrupper. Dermed kan forskning på skogsfinsk kultur også være av betydning for den aktuelle IMER-forskningen på urbane minoriteter.

English: In response to an initiative from the regional authorities of Hedmark County (Hedmark fylkeskommune), this publication aims to contribute to a research program on the culture and history of the Forrest Finns in Norway. The Forrest Finns began to immigrate into Scandinavia in the 17th century, but have only recently been given the status of a national minority. The research needs identified in this report are treated in a minority-majority perspective. The report contains a short introduction to the history and culture of Forrest Finns in Scandinavia, based mainly on older and established resources. On this basis, quite a few ideas for further research are suggested. The ideas are presented according to a certain strategy for cultural analysis, which is considered suitable for identifying other possible projects in addition to those outlined in the report. It is also suggested that it is important to make a distinction between what may be termed a general or comprehensive culture of Forrest Finns in Scandinavia and a culture peculiar to the locality of “Finnskogen” along the Norwegian-Swedish border. The report also recommends comparative research. Such an approach may open up new perspectives as far as the culture of Forrest Finns is concerned. At the same time it may make research on Forrest Finns more widely appealing to the community of researchers. A comparative approach may be realized in different ways. For example, the acculturation of Forrest Finns at different stages in Scandinavian history may be compared to the acculturation of other immigrant groups of Finnish origin, i.e. the Kvenes in Northern Norway. The acculturation of Forrest Finns may also be compared to national minority groups, like the Romani People, or indigenous groups, like the Southern Sami population, both of which have a long history in the county of Hedmark. Systematic comparisons between different minority groups may also open up new perspectives when it comes to understanding basic and historically rooted mentalities of the ethnic Norwegian majority population. Moreover, comparative research may add new approaches to the analyses of general processes like integration, assimilation and segregation. Research concerning the culture and history of Forrest Finns should therefore also be of importance to the agenda of internationally oriented IMER- researchers, who normally restrict their focus to recently immigrated urban minorities.
