Betydningen av alternative ungdomsskoler for elevers mestring. I hvilken grad og på hvilken måte kan en alternativ ungdomsskole påvirke elevers opplevelse av mestring.

Abstract

Norsk: Formålet med denne masteroppgaven er å undersøke hvilken grad og påvirkning en alternativ ungdomsskole har for mestring, hos elever som er tilknyttet et heltids tilbud. Mine undersøkelser er gjort ved en skole på innlandet. Skolen er tilknyttet kommunens ordinære skoletilbud, men er på god fysisk avstand fra den ordinære skolen for elevene. Det alternative ungdomsskoletilbudet har for det meste elever med sosiale og emosjonelle vansker, men også andre typer vansker forekommer. Skolen vektlegger Maslows behovsteori i arbeidet sitt, men også erfaringsbasert læring. Evalueringsstudier er etterspurt for å kvalitetssikre alternative tiltak i skolen. Vurdering og sikring av kvaliteten av tiltakene er viktig for å utvikle og bedre læringspotensialene i et skoletilbud, enten det dreier seg om det ordinære skoletilbudet eller et alternativt tilbud. Elevene er hovedaktørene i skolen og det er i denne studien spennende å få innblikk i deres tanker, vurderinger og erfaringer. Lærerne har også kommet med sine tanker, vurderinger og erfaringer. Kunnskapen som erverves vil kunne hjelpe skolen i kvalitetsutviklingen for sin skole, slik Kunnskapsløftet har en stor satsning på. Metodevalget som er brukt i datainnsamlingen er kvalitativt forskningsintervju. Datamaterialet er analysert og bearbeidet gjennom en abduktiv tilnærming, der både informantenes uttalelser og oppgavens teoretiske grunnlag blir sett i lyset av hverandre. Datamaterialet blir drøftet opp mot oppgavens teoretiske forståelsesramme. Utgangspunktet for min teori i oppgaven er alternative skoler generelt i Norge, og teori brukt ved min kaksusskole, med særlig vekt på Maslows behovsteori. Bandura, Antonovsky og Dewey læringsteorier brukes også for videre utdypning. Oppgaven fokuserer på pedagogiske målsetninger, arbeidsmåter, sosial kompetanse og mestring. Undersøkelsen viser at deltakelse ved den alternative ungdomsskolen bidrar til økt mestring. Mestrings kompetansen har overføringsverdi til den ordinære skolen. Skolen er et heltidstilbud og på den måten vet en ikke om tilbudet hadde vært annerledes, hvis skolen hadde hatt et deltidstilbud som en forlengelse av den ordinære skolen. Det viste seg at det var et utviklingspotensiale for den alternative ungdomsskolen, dette gjelder også for den ordinære skolen for å oppfylle målsetningene om tilpasset opplæring og måloppnåelse slik Kunnskapsløftet legger opp til.

English: The main purpose of the Master`s Thesis is to survey the extent and affect an alternative school has for the purpose of self-confidence. This survey is done with participants at an alternative school attending a full time school offer. My survey has been done at a school in the inland district. This particular school is part of the County`s ordinaty school but is physically located at a distance from the regular school building. The alternative school offer i mainly for students with social and emotional difficulties, but also a few other behavioral challenged students. The main emphasis in the school is Maslow`s Hierarchy of Needs, but is also based on experiental learning. This evaluation studies is sought of to assure alternative measures in school. The evalution and the assurance of quality of the measures offered is important to develop and better the learning potential in a school. This can be as a part of an ordinary school or as a part of an alternative school institution. The studens are the main part in this survey, and it is exciting to get an insight in their thoughts and how they evaluate their own experiences. Knowledge gained from this survey will help the school to develop quality improvement as "Kunnskapsløftet", National curriculum of learning as a main focus. Methods chosen to convey this evalution is research interviews. The data material is analysed and processed via an abductive approach. Both the informants data and the theoretical basis is combined in this process. The data material is discussed against the thesis`s theoretical understanding. The main base of the theory in my thesis is that alternative schools in general, and theories used by my case school has ground base in Maslow`s Hierarchy of Needs. This, in addition to elaboration of the theories of learning by Bandura, Antonovsky and Dewey. The thesis is focused on the pedagogical goals, work methods and the social competence and mastering. Survey shows that participation at the alternative school does give a higher esteem of. The self-confidence competence does have value as to be part of an ordinary school. The school is a full time offer, and there fore it is known if this would be as successful if part of an ordinary school or added to prolonging the ordinary school day. Study showed that there is a development potential for the alternative school. This also applies for ordinary schools to ensure custom individual learning plan and learning goals as "Kunnskapsløftet", the National Curriculum of Learning has as a focus.
