Tittel: Et kaldt hode og et varmt hjerte – refleksjoner fra PP-rådgivere om veiledning.

Bakgrunn og problemstilling: For å utforske hvordan veiledning fungerer i en spesialpedagogisk praksis, ble valget å utforske hvordan veiledning er innenfor PP-tjenesten et spennende valg. PP-tjenesten har i kraft av lovgivning tillatelse og rett til å utføre rådgivning og direkte hjelp til både voksne og barn. Samtidig har PPT en plikt til å utføre disse oppgavene, men også være observant på at grensen til andre myndigheter og tjeneste ikke tråkkes over. Primært er PP-tjenesten en hjelpeinstans, og har ansvar for å gi råd og bidra til at andre tar sitt ansvar og finne løsninger. Her gjelder det å tilrettelegge for elever, læringer, barn, lærere og voksne med behov for kortere eller lengre perioder. Formålet med prosjektet er å utvide min forståelse rundt veiledning, samt få og gi et innblikk i hvordan veiledning fungerer innenfor PP-tjenesten. Problemstilling min er: Hvilke refleksjoner har PP-rådgivere i henhold til veiledning?

Teori: Litteraturen som jeg har tatt i bruk, har jeg blitt kjent med gjennom masterstudiet, tidligere studier, forslag fra andre og egne litteratursøk. Oppgavens teoridel presenteres kjernen ved veiledning og rådgivning. Videre presenteres ulike elementer ved veiledning, som anerkjennelse og empati, roller og relasjoner, kommunikasjon og fortelling og til slutt makt og etikk.

Metode: Mitt vitenskapsteoretiske utgangspunkt er hermeneutikk, da studien innebærer tolkning av informantenes refleksjoner, knyttet til veiledning. Som metode valgte jeg kvalitativ semistrukturert intervju, med tematisk analyse. Mitt utvalg består av fire PP-rådgivere.

Resultat: Informantene har veldig nyanserte og fengende refleksjoner rundt veiledning, og hvordan dette utøves innenfor PP-tjenesten. I drøftingskapittelet fremgår det hvordan informantene må ha god kompetanse, for å holde veiledning og rådgivning adskilt. Videre hvordan erfaring koblet med kompetanse er avgjørende for utøvelsen av veiledning. Det kommer også frem hvordan elementene avhenger av hverandre, og at det er sentrale aspekt som varme, tillit, trygghet og respekt som må ligge til grunn. Disse gjør at relasjon, kommunikasjon og fortelling kan opprettes. Makt og etikk har en stor påvirkningskraft som gjennomsyrer alt i veiledning, fra veileders makt og rammene for veiledningen. Hvor veileder har et ansvar om å til rette legge seg veisøkers situasjon. Min forståelse av dette er et dynamisk bilde av veiledning, hvor erfaring og kompetanse spiller en grunnleggende rolle for utøvelsen av veiledningen.

Abstract: Title: A cold mind and a warm heart – reflections of PP-counselors on guidance counselling.

Background and approach to problem: To explore how guidance works in the practice of special needs, the choice to explore how guidance is inside the pedagogical psychological services was an exciting choice. The PP-services has the power of legislation and right to do counselling and direct help to adults and children who need it, but also be observant that lines are not crossed. Primarily the PP-services are an aid service, whose responsibility is to advice and help others take agency and find solutions to problems. It’s important to organize children, students, teachers, apprentices, and adults with needs for a longer or shorter periods. The purpose of this project is to extend my own understanding of this, but to also give insight into how guidance counselling works in the PP-services. My approach to this is: What reflections do PP-counselors have on guidance counselling.

Theory: The literature that is used is based on literature from the master course, earlier studies and my own search on research literature. The theory introduces the core of guidance, and also the elements that make up this. These elements include recognition and empathy, roles and relations, communication and narratives and power and ethics.

Method: My scientific approach is based on an hermeneutic approach, because the project depends on interpretations of the counselors reflections and my own interpretations. The method of my choosing is a qualitative semi structured interview, with a thematic analysis. My selections for this interview are based on four PP-counselors from different offices.

Results: The informants gave very nuanced and interesting reflections on guidance within the PP-services. In the discussion chapter the reflections of the informants show that the guidance counselor needs good proficiency to keep counseling and guidance apart, though they do intersect from time to time. They also show that experience and knowledge is crucial. The reflections also show that the elements depend on each other to work, and that aspects such as warmth, trust, safety and respect are fundamental for it to work. This makes communication, relation building and narratives possible. Power and ethics are elements that are imbued in everything, from the counselors power to setting of the counselling. The guidance counselors have a responsibility to make sure that the ones searching for guidance are taken care of. So my understanding of this is that guidance counselling is a very dynamic process, where experience and proficiency play a substantial part in the practice of guidance counselling.
