Bildebokens potensial for utvikling av sosial handlingskompetanse

Abstract

Denne masteroppgaven handler om hvordan bildeboken egner seg for utvikling av sosial handlingskompetanse på ungdomstrinnet. Gjennom nærlesing og analyse av bildeboken Odd er et egg (2010) av Lisa Aisato, har jeg sett på hvordan dannelsesreisen til protagonisten kommer til uttrykk i boken og i peritekstene. Jeg har også sett på hvordan boken kan anvendes for å utfordre elever til å reflektere over egen danning og utvikling. Sosial handlingskompetanse er et stort begrep, og jeg har derfor prøvd å knytte dette mot emosjonell kompetanse og empati.

Denne studien er basert på en hermeneutisk tilnærming og jeg brukt bildebokanalyse og bildebokteori som metode. Min teoretiske forankring er i stor grad basert på forskning av Jens Bay, Martha Nussbaum og Maria Nikolajeva. Andre sentrale teoretikere er også benyttet for å underbygge både argumentasjon og perspektiver.

Gjennom norskfagets allsidige kompetansemål, kan man benytte denne type litteratur til å utforske og nå mange mål. Bildeboken kan anvendes i arbeid med både sosial og faglig læring. Studien viser at bildeboken kan og bør benyttes på ungdomstrinnet, og at bildeboken som allalderlitteratur har et stort potensial i arbeid med å danne empatiske individer. Bildebokens kompleksitet gir mulighet for å inkludere elevmangfold, og er et godt utgangspunkt for litterære samtaler med elever.

This master's thesis is about how picture books can be used to develop social competence among middle school students. Through close reading and analysis of the picture book Odd is an egg (2010) by Lisa Aisato, I have looked at how the protagonist's journey of formation is expressed in the book and its peritexts. I have also explored how the book can be used to challenge students to reflect on their own development and formation. Social competence is a broad concept, and therefore, I have attempted to connect it to emotional competence and empathy.

This study is based on a hermeneutic approach, and I have used picture book analysis and theory as my method. My theoretical framework is largely based on research by Jens Bay, Martha Nussbaum, and Maria Nikolajeva. Other key theorists are also used to support arguments and perspectives.

Through the versatile competence goals of the Norwegian language subject, this type of literature can be used to explore and achieve many goals. Picture books can be used in both social and academic learning. The study shows that picture books can and should be used in middle school, and that picture books as crossover literature have great potential in shaping empathetic individuals. The complexity of picture books allows for the inclusion of student diversity and provides a good starting point for literary conversations with students.
