yrkesretter matematikken.
tidligere brukt for å analysere kontekstbaserte oppgaver i lærebøker. Oppgavene i Sinus og Mønster ble
analysert ut ifra to variabler: type kontekst og yrkesretting.
matematikken i liten grad, mens Mønster yrkesretter matematikken i noen grad.
dc.description.abstract | Title: “An analysis of the vocational relevance in two textbooks for the 1P-Y mathematics course”.
In this master's thesis, a textbook analysis of the textbooks Sinus and Mønster for the 1P-Y
mathematics course in the field of health and social care has been conducted. The purpose of the
study is to determine how these two textbooks contextualize and make mathematics relevant for
vocational education. The theoretical perspectives for this thesis are opportunity-to-learn, and various
teaching theories related to context-based education, such as Realistic Mathematics Education (RME),
authentic and context-based learning.
The research question is as follows: What characterizes the context and vocational relevance of the
tasks in the textbooks Sinus and Mønster for the 1P-Y mathematics course in the field of health and
social care?
To answer this question, a vertical analysis of the textbooks was conducted. A horizontal analysis was
also conducted to get an overview of the structure and scope of the books. Parts of the framework
used to analyze the tasks in these textbooks were developed by Wijaya et al. (2015a), and has been
used to analyze context-based tasks in textbooks. The tasks in Sinus and Mønster were analyzed based
on two variables: the type of context and vocational relevance.
The results of the analyses show that in the textbook Sinus, 26% of the tasks have no context, 68%
have camouflage context, and 8% have relevant and essential context. Similarly, in the textbook
Mønster, 26% of the tasks have no context, 61% have camouflage context, and 13% have relevant and
essential context. The proportion of tasks with vocational relevance in Sinus is 8%, while 17% of the
tasks in Mønster have vocational relevance. Based on the proportion of vocational exercises and
exercises with relevant and essential context, it can be concluded that Sinus provides limited learning
opportunities for vocational mathematics, while Mønster provides learning opportunities for
vocational to some extent.
Considering the central role of textbooks in mathematics education and the varying results of the
analyses of these two textbooks, it suggests that Norwegian vocational students receive highly diverse
learning opportunities regarding vocational-oriented mathematics.
