Learning by Dewey. Om praktisk tilnærming til opplæring og teori i skolen.

Abstract

Norsk: Denne studien handler om to læreres erfaringer rundt tilretteleggingen for undervisningen i klasserommet. Mange elever sliter med det faglige i grunnskolen og kan senere droppe ut av videregående opplæring. Én av grunnene til dette kan være bruken av for lite aktivitet og praktiske tilnærmingsmetoder til undervisningen. Dette ville jeg undersøke og lære mer om, både fra en teoretikers ståsted og fra to informanter som til daglig jobber i skolen. I denne studien er det to lærere som er informanter, og det empiriske materialet er hentet fra intervjuer med disse to. Det er videre gjort kvalitativ forskning av dette. Jeg intervjuet lærerne for å høre om deres opplevelser og tanker rundt undervisningsmetoder og elevenes læring. Jeg har presentert og drøftet funnene mine med utgangspunkt i teoretikeren John Deweys teorier, Stortingsmeldinger og fagbøker. Hovedfunnene fra denne studien er at lærerne opplever at de bruker varierte former for elevaktivitet i undervisningen for å engasjere elevene. Videre er sosiale relasjoner og skolen som en mestringsarena to faktorer som påvirker elevenes motivasjon og mestring. Ulike tiltak som alternative læringsarenaer, eksterne ressurser og individuelle tilrettelegginger er med på å bedre læringsmiljøet på skolen.

English: This bachelor thesis explores two teachers’ experiences with the adaptation around teaching. Many pupils are struggling with subjects in primary and secondary school which could later result in them dropping out of further education. This study aims to highlight one of the reasons by showing/illustrating the lack of activity and practical tasks as a part of the education. I wanted to learn more about this, and I chose to investigate through the light of John Deweys studies. In addition to Dewey’s foundings I will also consider examples from two interviews with two teachers who participate in pupil-teacher interactions on a daily basis. I have made qualitative research from the empiric material, selected from the two interviews. I was interviewing the teachers to hear about experiences and thoughts they were having around teachingmethods and educational advancement). I have introduced and discussed my findings in point of departure to John Dewey theories, The parliamentary notifications and text books. The main results from this study are that teachers are experiencing that they use varied forms of activity in the pupils education to engage them. Social relations and the school as an arena of learning are two factors which affect the motivation and coping of the pupils. Different efforts such as alternative arenas of learning, extern resources and individual adaptations are factors which can improve the environment of learning in primary and secondary school. This bachelor thesis is an empirical theory based on qualitative research. By using a basis with informants who daily work in the classroom, parliamentary notifications and textbooks, this thesis will clarify the importance of a practical approach to tuition and education in school.
