Hvordan CSR-kommunikasjon påvirker brand equity hos unge forbrukere
Abstract
sosiale medier i økende grad for å formidle deres CSR-aktiviteter.
virksomheters omdømme, mens selve kommunikasjonsaspektet og dens potensial for
For å
grad fange informantenes oppmerksomhet.
Engelsk sammendrag (abstract):
CSR communication is an important part of a company's marketing in order to be able to refer
to its own role as a social actor. Consequently, effective CSR-communication is an important
focus area and should be highly prioritized in all companies. Social media is an emergent
communication platform that has changed marketing practices, and is today businesses are
increasingly using social media to communicate their CSR activities.
Previous research has largely focused on the effects CSR communication has on company
reputation, while communication itself and its potential for value creation on social media has
received less attention. This study aims to gain a greater insight and understanding of the effects
of different CSR-messages, and how CSR-communication on Instagram affects Generation Z
perceived value of a brand.
The researchers of this study had chosen the clothing industry as the context of the study, to
further find out how Generation Z experiences and interprets the clothing industy’s CSR
communication. To answer the aim of the study, the study will map the consumers'
understanding of CSR, and how this affects their perception of CSR communication. Further
the study will take on how Generation Z experiences CSR-communication on Instagram, how
their previous awareness and associations can affect the perception of CSR-communication,
and finally what is perceived as relevant CSR-communication.
A qualitative approach with phenomenological design has been chosen for this study. The data
collection is based on semi-structured in-depth interviews with use of photos and videos.
Applying photos and videos gives the informants the ability to talk about and interpret the
phenomenon that is being studied, especially if they believe they have not been exposed to
CSR-communication on Instagram. The sample consists of ten informants with the following
criteria (1) be a part of Generation Z, (2) use Instagram and (3) have knowledge of CSR. Latter
presupposes the informants own ability to assess the value of CSR communication to a brand.
The sample was recruited through a combined discretionary selection and snowball method. A
combined recruitment was considered beneficial to ensure a more varied selection and limit
like-minded informants. In the analysis of collected data material, a phenomenological analysis
has been chosen based on a gradual deductive inductive method.
The study provides insight into how brands can design and exercise effective CSRcommunication on Instagram. The results of the study show that CSR-communication can
affect the informants perceived value of a brand in the form of the informant gaining new or
changed knowledge about the brand. In order to influence the informants' awareness and
associations, it will be most appropriate to have a consumer-oriented approach, where the
content is adapted to the brand target group. The result of the study indicates that CSR
communication does not have to be relevant to influence brand equity, but if the CSRcommunication is relevant in terms of consumer-oriented, the CSR-communication will hook
the informants attention to a greater extent. This is often content that is aesthetic or real in the
sense that it refers to reality. Finally the results indicate that CSR-communication should be
straightforward with little text and with a clear visual message. Through this, the informant's
positive knowledge will be developed, and thus have an impact on brand equity.
This study is limited to the clothing industries CSR-communication on Instagram, but may have
transfer value to similar industries and other social platforms, where CSR-communication will
have an impact on the brand perceived value.
