Samisk tematikk i norskfaget - et garnityr eller en ingrediens?

Abstract

I denne studien har vi ved hjelp av mixed methods foretatt to innholdsanalyser av lærebøker for norskfaget for 5-7. trinn, produsert i tilknytning til LK20, med henholdsvis kvantitativ og kvalitativ innfallsvinkel. Den kvantitative innholdsanalysen har tallfestet det totale antall forekomster av samisk innhold i lærebøkene, mens den kvalitative innholdsanalysen har hatt som formål å undersøke om et utvalg av tekster presenterer sitt innhold på samiske stemmers premisser, og om de fremhever spesifikke identitetsmarkører i tekstene. Vi har i studien analysert et totalt antall på 19 lærebøker fra fire av de største læremiddelforlagene i Norge, Cappelen Damm, Fagbokforlaget, Aschehoug og Gyldendal. Resultatet vi sitter igjen med, er at innholdet av samiskrelatert tematikk er lavt, og at det i hovedsak presenteres sekvensvis i lærebøkene heller enn å være jevnt fordelt gjennom verket. Disse resultatene samsvarer med lignende studier det vises til i oppgaven. På bakgrunn av tekstutvalget til den kvalitative analysen, kan vi slå fast at samiske stemmer blir løftet frem og at tekstene belyser et bredt spekter av innhold, fra fornorskningspolitikken til nyere tids populærkultur. Særlig unge samiske stemmer blir fremhevet gjennom de representerte tekstene, selv om det også er inkludert tradisjonelt anerkjente tekster og forfattere som har hatt særlig betydning for samisk kultur gjennom historien. Vi mener, dog fra et majoritetsperspektiv, at læreboktekstene forsøker å fremme det mangfoldet av ulike identiteter som finnes blant den samiske befolkningen. Derimot kunne tekstomfanget vært større, slik at samisk tematikk ville blitt presentert mer gjennomgående gjennom de ulike årstrinnene.

In this study, using mixed methods, we have carried out two content analyses of textbooks for the Norwegian subject for grades 5-7., produced in connection with LK20, with respectively a quantitative and a qualitative angle of approach. The quantitative content analysis has quantified the total number of occurrences of Sami themes in the textbooks, while the qualitative content analysis has aimed to investigate whether a selection of texts, chosen based on given selection criteria, presents its content on the premises of Sami voices, and in what way identity markers are highlighted in the texts. We have analyzed a total of 19 textbooks from four major publishing companies in Norway, Cappelen Damm, Fagbokforlaget, Aschehoug og Gyldendal. The resulting finding indicates a low presence of Sami-related topics, primarily confined within sequential sections of the textbooks, rather than distributed throughout the entirety of the books. These findings align with similar studies presented in the thesis. Based on the text selection for the qualitative analysis, we can state that Sami voices are brought to the fore and that the texts shed light on a wide range of content, from the Norwegian assimilation policy to recent popular culture. Young Sami voices in particular are emphasized through the texts represented, although traditionally recognized texts and authors who have had particular importance for Sami culture throughout history are also included. However, we believe that, from a majority perspective, the textbooks aim to promote diversity among the Sami population by representing various identities. In contrast, the scope of the text could have been greater, so that Sami themes would have been presented more consistently throughout the various year levels.
