flerspråklig elev i to naturfagøkter.
English:
In this thesis, I examined how bilingual education can affect a multilingual student's
conceptual understanding and sense of mastery in science. To find if there was a change of
conceptual understanding and mastery by bilingual teaching, I performed a qualitative study
in which I followed a multilingual student in two science lessons. The first lesson without
bilingual instruction in advance and the second with. I discussed the findings in light of
relevant theories, such as the iceberg model of Cummins.
Through observations and interviews, I got a clear indication that the multilingual student
achieved greater conceptual understanding and experienced more mastery in the lesson
where the bilingual teacher had bilingual education with the student in advance.
